That depends which movies you have watched, but yeh I guess so. I work on a secure site with perimeter fences and barbed wire and 24 hour security so that is kind of like labs you see in the movies. My chemistry lab is big and has lots of equipment so I suppose that is like the movies too, but we don’t do things as exciting as they do.

I don’t know what movies you’re watching. It about the size of my science lab in school.

I’m afraid not. A lot of scientists don’t work in labs. They work on theories and mathematical models, and they make predictions about the real world.
Other scientists then test those theories – sometimes in their labs, sometimes by looking at what happens in space, on Earth or under the oceans.
The two kinds of scientists are called theoreticians and experimentalists. In physics they can be called theoretical physicists and experimental physicists.
I’m a theoretical physicist. So the main piece of equipment I’ve always used is a computer. And the inside of my head.
Have a look here and follow the links to hear a couple of Glasgow University scientists talking about the two different kinds of scientist: http://www.realscience.org.uk/science-discussion-crab-pulsar-gravitational-waves.html#TheoryExperiment.
