      Great question – and the answer is probably not.

      At least not how we are now. There might be intelligent life. But it could be intelligent dinosaurs rather than apes. Who knows?

      What we do know is that a lot of the mammals around now, including all the apes, monkeys and humans evolved from a mammal that was around at the same time as the dinosaurs.

      It looked a bit like a shrew does today. And it got its chance to multiply and spread because the dinosaurs went extinct.

      That left lots of jobs in the eco-system for other kinds of animals to fill. Which they did.

      And 65 million years later here we are.
