I’m lucky in that because I’m a clinical scientist (medical doctor) I get paid a doctors basic wage. I also work in the evenings sometimes to keep my experience current (and the cash).

it depends what you think is good. Pay is 35K upwards, but not many people get more than 65K. So that is pretty good, but lawyers and medical doctors earn much more for the same amount of training & study. you have to do science because you love it, not for the money.

It pays well enough, I have a very comfortable life style and I have enough extra each month to save up to buy a house. Though the pay isn’t that important to me – I’d quite happily do my job for less pay (but don’t tell my boss!)

That’s a good question. Jobs in pure research in universities don’t pay fantastic, but they pay quite well and it’s a great job.

Science and engineering jobs in industry, which I did for a while, pay pretty well. And if you’re in a high-tech industry you can get promoted and end up getting very good pay.

Of course by that time you’re probably not doing the science or engineering any more, but are managing other people to do it.

The other job I do now – writing – pays about the same as university scientists if you’re writing for newspapers and magazines. If you get into television or write a best-selling book, the pay can be a whole lot more.

Haha, not as much as some jobs, don’t go into science if you want to be rich, unless you invent something that is! But I get by!
